Course Title: APPROACHES TO LITERATURE

1^st Year, 2^st  Semester, Required

Short description: I.Definitions of literature. Problems of the literary text. Fictional nature

of  the literary work.  The literary work as a structure. II.  Analysis of a literary work: plot/story

and characters; point of view; narrative; point of view; diction; style and rhetorical figures;

syntax; tone.  Metre, metric line, rhyme, stanza. III. Literary genres and conventions: epic, lyric, dramatic.

Analysis of poetry: epic, lyric. Fiction; novel, types of novel. Elements of fiction. Dramatic literature.

The nature of tragedy; types of tragedy.  The nature of comedy; types of comedy.  Elements of drama.
